Exhausted and stressed mothers. Dr. Carmen Bravo de Rueda gives us some specifications about this disorder.
How many times have we heard that “moms can do everything” or some other phrases that make us believe that mothers have “super magical powers” to simultaneously take care of household chores, work, children, and so on? No, mothers also get tired and also feel anguish. Today, as people have to turn their living space into a home office and home school, many women have seen their usual tasks multiplied, causing them physical and emotional fatigue.
What is Burnout Syndrome?
Burnout Syndrome is a natural response of the body when it has been subjected to episodes of intense and prolonged stress. It is a disorder that mothers can suffer today due to their endless work hours.
According to Dr. Bravo de Rueda, Psychologist of our clinic, the symptoms are extremely physical and mental exhaustion, loss of energy, low motivation, and performance, and even emotional distancing. “Today, mothers are hyper-vigilant of their families from getting sick, take care of the house and manage to motivate their children, and work, all at the same time, forgetting time for themselves to rest or entertain”, she explains.
The strong stress symptoms to which they are exposed can cause depression, irritability, or even break into tears and have a feeling of guilt for wanting to be alone. To avoid these situations, our specialist recommends that mothers and the whole family do not believe the myth that they can or have to do everything alone.
“Family members must be involved in all the house activities. If there is a husband, divide the responsibility for childcare. Motivate the little ones to do their homework and schoolwork with rewards to recognize their effort, such as serving double dessert for making their bed well or ordering their toys. And most importantly, let mothers have a necessary rest only for themselves to do what they like or want. They deserve it”, adds the expert.
