The Nuclear Medicine unit of Clinica Ricardo Palma has the GE Spect NM830 double detector system, one of the most innovative technologies that allow new and better solutions in molecular imaging for greater prevention and adequate treatment.
Dr. Roque Cano, nuclear doctor at Clinica Ricardo Palma, explains to us what diagnostic tests this specialty offers:
Oncological studies
Bone scintigraphy allows an early diagnosis of metastases when they reach the bones, a highly appreciated advantage in the evaluation and treatment of tumors of the breast, prostate, lung, digestive tract, etc.
Myocardial perfusion studies
Myocardial perfusion is a non-invasive study of the heart. It makes use of radiopharmaceuticals, administered intravenously, which are mainly fixed in the myocardial muscle, identifying which areas are not receiving sufficient blood flow.
Thyroid studies
A thyroid scan provides images that tell you about the size, shape, and position of the thyroid gland. A radionuclide called pertechnetate is injected. The thyroid captures the radiopharmaceutical, being able to identify suspicious nodules and assess thyroid function in cases of hyperthyroidism.
Functional study of the kidneys
Renal scintigraphy uses a small amount of radioactive material (radionuclide), which once injected is distributed in the bloodstream and is filtered by the kidneys, allowing information to be obtained about the normal functioning of the kidney or its progressive deterioration.
