What are the symptoms and how to prevent it?
It is caused by influenza A, B and C viruses that can infect your nose, throat, paranasal sinuses and lungs. Most people with seasonal influenza recover after a few days; however, in newborn, seniors and people with heart or lung problems can be more serious or complicated with pneumonia and cause death
The symptoms are: high fever, over 39 degrees, intense chills, severe osteomuscular pain, severe cough and respiratory distress
It is treated with paracetamol and antiviral drugs. There is a vaccine for influenza, which you should get every year
Prevention measures: cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing, wash your hands frequently with soap and water, and stay away from people while they are sick. It differs from the common cold by nasal congestion, runny nose and sneezing
