Clínica Ricardo Palma has an interventional cardiology room, where complex procedures are performed with top technology. It is the only private health institution that has a specialized team of interventional cardiologists 24 hours a day.
There is no defined age to start cardiology check-ups. It depends on the type of patient, comorbidities, and family history.
For this reason, within the framework of the Peruvian Cardiology Day, Dr. Rodrigo Leon, Cardiologist at Clínica Ricardo Palma, gives information on the tests we should perform to avoid cardiac complications:
Electrocardiogram
Method of graphic tracing through electrodes (cables) on a special paper. The electrodes are placed on the surface of the body and provide indirect information about the structure of the heart and heart rhythm.
Laboratory exams
With a blood sample, the profile of cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, and kidney function is studied. This test may identify dyslipidemia, diabetes, or kidney failure.
Stress test
This test involves walking on a treadmill for 6 to 10 minutes, while the heart rate is monitored, and indirectly assesses the state of the arteries that nourish the heart, and the physical capacity of the patient.
Echocardiogram
Ultrasound performed at the thorax level to morphologically evaluate the heart. It is requested when there is suspicion of structural cardiac problems or alteration in its contraction or pumping function.
Coronary calcium score
This test involves a tomography of the arteries that nourish the heart to assess the patient’s risk of suffering from coronary artery disease or obstruction of heart arteries.
Cardiovascular diseases are our silent enemy. It is very important to prevent them with a healthy lifestyle and regular preventive check-ups.
