What is menopause?
It is the permanent cessation of menstruation that results from the loss of hormonal activity, and is recognized after 12 consecutive months without presenting a menstrual period and without any other physiological or pathological cause.
At what age can it occur and what factors tend to influence?
In Latin America it usually occurs on average at 49 years of age, in Peru at 47. The factors that influence the age of onset are: family and hereditary history. Tobacco use has been associated with cases of early menopause; that is, the end of menstruation before the age of 40.
