Colon cancer has high rates of cure if it is detected early, so it is necessary for people over 50 years to undergo annual rectal examination and fecal occult blood test called Thevenon.

These medical procedures help detecting this type of cancer before the symptoms appear, said Mauricio León Rivera, Surgical Oncologist of our clinic.

This  malignant neoplasm produces a series of symptoms that vary depending on their location within the colon and may be anal bleeding, anemia without apparent cause, persistent abdominal pain and unexplained weight loss of more than 10% of the usual weight

The doctor recommended that before the appearance of any of these signs or symptoms, it is essential to see a specialist to have a precise diagnosis, in this case the gastroenterologist; and treatment would be performed by a surgeon oncologist, expert in abdominal pathology
