How much it affects people?
Having a headache is normal from time to time and depending on the situations that happen during the day: stress, bad neck position, or even a strong smell. However, a migraine is a headache, characterized by severe, stabbing headaches that can last up to three days. It is one of the most common diseases and affects the quality of life of patients who suffer from it.
“One of the dangers of migraine is the risk of having a stroke, especially in patients with a prolonged aura. The aura appears before the headache and lasts more than 60 minutes. Its symptoms are vision of lights, tingling, among others. Vertigo can also occur with migraine”, explains Alfredo Durán, Neurologist of our clinic.
According to Dr. Duran, this pathology is more frequent in women since adolescence and can be linked to hereditary factors. Apart from causing discomfort, it also affects productivity at work and the personal lives of patients. Therefore, it is very important to identify the warning signs.
“This neurological disorder has no cure, but there are ways to treat it: having a healthy diet, not consuming red wine, or canned fish, or shellfish, tomato, spinach, chocolate or cheese. Avoid stress and get adequate sleep”, recommends our specialist.
Likewise, it is advisable to avoid consumption of ergotamines such as coffee when headaches are frequent and write down all discomforts so that the doctor can prescribe the correct medicine for your diagnosis.
