More than a year has passed since the beginning of virtual classes, which has caused children to spend more time in front of a computer or mobile phone, affecting their visual health. “The frequent treatments indicated in children are the use of correctors with blue light filters, or tear drops conditional on red eye or ocular burning. If there is a greater commitment, it will depend on the respective evaluation ”, says Dr. Jaqueline Mendoza, pediatric ophthalmologist at our clinic.
What signs you should pay attention to identify any visual problems in your children?
What tests are performed in our ophthalmology service to detect visual problems in children?
Sight measurement. To rule out ametropia (refractive defects of the eye that cause the eye to not focus well) that require the use of glasses
Eye fundus. To rule out anatomical abnormalities
Rule out strabismus or ocular deviations. Disorders in which the eyes do not look in the same direction at the same time
Corneal topography. In cases of high measurements, to rule out diseases such as keratoconus, an ocular alteration that causes distortion and decreased vision
