What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO)?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) is a medical treatment that involves breathing oxygen (O2) for short periods of time under high pressure.

The combination of oxygen in high doses and high pressures (greater than 1.5 atmosphere) causes the oxygen to dissolve in the blood and other liquids of the tissues, raising its concentration in the body.

This therapy helps in the treatment of diseases and difficult clinical or surgical problems, in addition to producing a revitalizing effect on tissues.

What’s the Procedure Like?

The patient is admitted to a special equipment called compression chamber or hyperbaric chamber, in which they are subjected to pressure for periods that vary from 45 to 180 minutes, depending on the treatment protocol. It is guided by medical specialists and qualified staff.

Successful hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments:

• Healing in complicated wound problems and diabetic foot.
• INecrotizing soft tissue infections (subcutaneous, muscle, fascial).
• Ulcers (stasis, decubitus, circulatory, diabetic).
• Sudden deafness and blindness.
